For many years the music study programmes at Codarts [formerly known as the Rotterdam Conservatoire] have had a high international reputation. The good name of the school can be attributed to the top quality it offers in a broad range of study areas (classical music, jazz, pop music, world music, music theatre, music in education), attuned to the demands of the international professional field. This gives students the possibility to come in contact with different music styles in an international environment with students from all the continents and teachers of international name and fame.

Programme content
Pop Music
Codarts trains you to be a multifaceted musical personality with an individual signature. As a top talent in the multidisciplinary Codarts environment, you can develop into an excellent performer, producer or songwriter. During the programme, you will be actively involved with the working field of pop music, for example through masterclasses, guest teachers and collaborations. The pop department has seven main subjects: creative producer, songwriting, drums, bass guitar, electric guitar, keyboards and voice.
Jazz Music
Students are offered a lively environment where they can develop fully both as a person and as a musician. Graduates from Rotterdam stand out in the international jazz scene because of their high artistic and entrepreneurial level. At Codarts you are trained to become not just a good musician, but also a creative one, who keeps an open mind for new developments and experiences. Jazz has ten main subjects: bass guitar, double bass, drums, flute, guitar, piano, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, and voice. Besides these different main subjects, all students take side subjects such as music theory and history, teaching methodology, and cultural entrepreneurship.
Classical Music
Graduates of the Classical Music department of Codarts (formerly known as the Rotterdam Conservatoire) have become highly regarded performers, composers, conductors and educators who have contributed to the building of new generations of performing artists. Main subject specialisations include: Woodwinds (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon);Brass (Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba); Percussion;Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass); Harp; Voice; Piano; Organ; Composition; Conducting (Orchestral Conducting, Brass Conducting and Choir Conducting); Music Theory
Music Theatre
The programme covers a wide area of performing arts combining theatre and music [musical, vaudeville, musical theatre, music theatre], constantly encouraging students to adopt a fresh, new approach to the musical and a bold curiosity for the new music theatre of tomorrow. The highest possible level of craftsmanship in the fields of acting and singing, as well as great authenticity, are the main educational goals.
